From Chapter 2

We sat around the living room enjoying our food when Pete announced that he and Elaine had some news to tell us.

“After much whining and begging this wonderful woman has finally agreed to marry me!”

We all drank a toast to the happy couple and then Jeff asked, “So Elaine, how much groveling did this guy have to do?”

“A lot, in fact so much that we’re going to be having a baby in seven months!”

At this news, Pete nearly spits out his beer. “What?”

“Simple Pete!  We’re pregnant!”

So let me get this straight.  “You bought the hemlock plant not knowing what it was really for, is that right?  Then you bought a gift basket containing two things that Janine likes most, also correct?”

“Yes, but I didn’t put two and two together.  She then asked me to take it to a courier and have it delivered to this hotel.  I had no clue what she had done with the plant, at that point.  Like I said if I had known I would not have gotten involved. I would have let her tell you about the manuscript and take my lumps from there.  I would’ve also reported her to the police for conspiring to commit murder.  I might be a thief Sylvie, but I’m no killer!”

Family Matters cover“Sally’s right, you’re too damn skinny. Don’t eat worth a damn.”

“I told you, I’ve been running to relieve stress.”

“You just need yourself a good man,” Porter declared, winking at her. “That’d relieve whatever stress ails you.”

Karens final choice 6d OVER HER DEAD BODY

LEENA DUBOIS BROWN AKA JULIE WRIGHT is the quintessential bitch in this story. She is used to getting what she wants exactly when she wants it. When her much older rich husband seeks a paramour more his own age Leena decides there is only room for one woman riding the meal ticket-her!  Like a woman scorned, Leena sets out to eliminate the competition –one Ethel Peterson who never saw it coming!

Leena is the aging showgirl Sandford (Sandy) Brown married on the fly. She comes across like Leena Lamont in SINGING IN THE RAIN–dumb as a bag of rocks but do not cross her. She has a caustic tongue and a toxic attitude to match!

My choice to portray Leena would be KRISTEN JOHNSON from 3 ROCK FROM THE SUN.

She could pull off the designer clothes and Jimmy Choos in a heartbeat!

qui est in literis

Every Tuesday, I post a teaser for one of my current works in progress. I invite all of my writer buddies to join in!

The rules:
Post a link, image, quote, or excerpt related to or taken from your current WIP.
State the name of the WIP.
Do NOT explain yourself! Resist the urge to wax poetic. This is a hint, not an outline.

The Mage

She smiled grimly. “Exactly. You are probably old enough to have noticed. There are more ghosts now than there were a hundred years ago, which was about the time it started. More unable to cross. When Charon vanished, parts of the Veil began to deteriorate, and now there are places that are almost impassable without the help of a medium.”

“I noticed. I thought it was just the population boom. There are more people now than there were then. More people, more dying, more…
